Using a needle and a process called barbotage, solid calcium lumps are attempted to be broken down. In some circumstances, water pressure through a syringe can be used to wash out the calcium substance when it is semisolid. Calcification can occur in people who have no symptoms at all. Such situations don't call for a particular course of action. When it is unclear whether a calcification is causing pain or not, a steroid injection can help determine how much discomfort the calcification is causing and whether further treatment (Barbotage) is necessary. The needle will be inserted into the calcium lump while being continuously watched. All areas of the lump will be the focus of punctures. The risk of tendon injury is kept to a minimum because the needle is guided precisely and constantly monitored.
